Who are the Ahlul Bayt ?

Who are the Ahlul Bayt ?

Here is a Q & A from the 12er Shia.

Another contributor commented that if based on Sunni
references we quoted, Ahlul-Bayt are the Prophet,
Fatimah, Ali, al-Hasan and al-Husain, then how can you include the nine descendants of alHusain(as)?

As we have already pointed out, only five members
of Ahlul-Bayt were alive at the time of the
Prophet(pbuh&hf). They were Prophet Muhammad, Lady
Fatimah, Imam Ali, Imam al-Hasan, and Imam al-
Husain. They were mentioned as Ahlul-Bayt by the Prophet(pbuh&hf) and the most important Sunni
collections testify to this fact.
However the nine descendants of Imam al-Husain were no
t alive at that time so that the Prophet could not
cover them by his mantle! But the Prophet did, in fact, mention their names and their numbers. Let us
review some traditions from Sihah Sittah:

First of all there is no such thing as Sihah Sittah. The Sunnis only  have 2 Sahih collection of ahadith books, and the remaining books are referred to as Sunan books. Secondly, the Sunnis do believe that the 9 descendants of Imam Hussain (as) who the 12er shia number 4-12 are part of Ahlul Bayt and purified, but not to the same degree as the Holy Five. Thirdly to state that since the other imams were not alive therefore only 4 were chosen for this verse of purification is  a baseless statement. If the other Imams were to equally purified then the Prophet (pbuh) would have stated there will be 9 others who are included in this verse. Remember Zaineb (sa) was alive during the lifetime of the Prophet (pbuh) and she is also part of Ahlul Bayt (as).  On the contrary, the 12er Shia do not consider her to be infallible.
Purification does not mean infallible. If a pious Muslim does not sin it doesn't make him infallible. In history, Imam Ali (as) had to rethink his decisions, and there are many 12ers who are misguided to believe that whatever Imam Ali (as) willed is what Allah (swt) wills. This is a very deviant way of thinking. Examples of this would be when Imam Ali (as) appointed Ziyad as a govern of Basra. Another would be when the Imam had to replace Malik al Asthar (ra) with Muhammad bin Abi Bakr (ra) in Egypt. If he was infallible then he wouldn't need to rethink these decisions. Therefore, the Sunnis believe is that only the Prophets (as) are infallible since they bring guidance through wahi. Next the 12er Shia quote the 12 Calipahs ahadith. The reality of this ahadith is its a Ummavi fabrication to make the ummah believe that for all centuries of Islam there are only  12 destined rulers. On top of that they made themselves the 12 Calipahs, so Muslims would believe there can't be any other rulers. Likewise, the 12er did the same with their beliefs on the 12 Imams. However, in history we don't have a single narration where the Imams numbered themselves one to twelve. Also, these 12 imams never used this 12 calipah ahadith to convince other that they are the 12 divinely appointed imams.

Next the 12er use the ahadith that a Jewish man came and asked who the 12 Imams are. There is no reference in the bible about 12 Imams. The 12 princes in the bible are not the 12 Imams. I already covered that in another blog. Next if the 12 Imams were mentioned in the bible then why couldn't they be mentioned in the Quran ? Again the 12er shia reasoning is mostly based on analogies and extrapolations, and these method of understanding are not binding on the ummah. In fact, as I know the Ahlul Bayt rejected the concept of analogies and extrapolations. They were strictly textual imams. So in the end, if Ahlul Bayt extends to the 9 descendants of Imam Hussain (as) then it also extends to the other children of Imam Hassan (as) and Imam Hussain (as). Eventually through generation the purification level starts dropping based on the level of deviance from the truth.

Dozner Shia Slander Umme Salma (ra) and the Holy Prophet (pbuh)

I am sure you all know that the 12ers only consider Umme Salma (ra), Khatijah (ra) and Zaineb (ra) to be the good wives of the Prophet (pbuh). However, I found a tradition they insult her and also the Prophet (pbuh).

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the
following:
“Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once Abu Bakr and ‘Umar went to ‘Umm Salamah and asked her, ‘O ‘Umm Salamah, you lived with another man before the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. How is the Messenger of Allah compared to that man in matters of going to bed with his wife?’ She said, ‘He is no more than the other man.’ They left and the Holy Prophet came. She stood up frightened of the
coming of something from the heaven and informed him of what had happened. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, became angry, his face turned overcast and perspiration due to anger emerged between his eyes.
He (the Messenger of Allah) came out with his gown dragging behind him until he climbed on the pulpit. Al-Ansar (people of al-Madinah) hastened to pick up arms and commanded to ready their horses. He (the Messenger of Allah) climbed on the pulpit, praised Allah and spoke of His glory, then said, ‘O people, what is the matter with certain people! They spy on me to find my faults and ask about my private matters in my absence and behind my back. By Allah, I am the most honorable among you in matters of ancestry, of more clean birth, a provider of more sincere advice for the sake of Allah in one’s absence. Whoever of you may like to ask me about who his father is I can inform him about it.’ A man then stood up and asked, ‘Who is my father?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) replied, ‘He is so and so shepherd.’ Another  man stood up and asked, ‘Who is my father?’ He father?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘He is the one to whom you are ascribed.’ Al-Ansar then
pleaded saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, forgive us, Allah forgives you. Allah has sent you as mercy so forgive us, Allah will forgive you.’ The Holy Prophet when spoken to would seem shy and perspire and would cast down his eyes before people due to shyness when they spoke to him. He (the Messenger of Allah) then climbed down the pulpit. At dawn Jibril descended with a dish of mashed meat and wheat from paradise and said, ‘O Muhammad, this is made for you by al-Hur al-‘In. You can eat it with Ali and his children; it is not proper that people other than you eat it.’ The Messenger
of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, Ali, Fatimah, al-Hassan and al-Husayn ate it (the food that Jibril had brought from paradise) and it gave the Messenger of Allah the ability in matters of going to bed with his wives which was equal to that of forty men, thus he (the Messenger of Allah) could go to bed with all of his wives in
one night if he so wanted.’” ( Al Kafi Volume 5 H 10221, Ch. 190, h 41)

Latest Exaggerations on Imam Ali (as) and his Mother (ra)

Listen from the 20:39 min mark.

Again I am not posting this clip to cover whether Imam Ali (as) was born in the Kaaba or not. However, I want to cover  the exaggerations.

He starts off by saying that Fatima (ra) the mother of Imam Ali (as) is superior than Bibi Maryam (as) and Bibi Asiya (as). I am really sick of this guy telling people that Yassir al Habib is creating fitna, and response for disunity. The reality is Yassir al Habib is not responsible at all. The reason is  Yasir al Habib is very blunt. He gives the people the choice to listen to him. Once Yasir uses foul language which is found in the 12er Shia books, a Sunni would  stop watching his videos. On the contrary these types of taqiyyah/unity 12ers use taqiyyah and unity to try to attract laymen Sunni and then slowly spread poisonous beliefs against the sahaba. Then the other problem is most 12ers are blind followers of taqleed. So when a 12er listens and blindly accepts what Nakshawani has to say without verification they would naturally be inclined to hate Sunnis even more to the level where a Sunni would be considered a monafiq for not become a Dozener. On top of that Naskhawani's followers would be trained to camouflage the hatred with taqiyyah. One prime example is he says one companion was name the father of camels, the others a barking dog, but Imam Ali was named through a created medium which his mother received through Allah himself.

Also he this version Imam Ali's (as)  mother references Bibi Asiya (ra) and Bibi Maryam (sa) to the pagan Arabs.

Lets see what the Quran tells our Prophet (pbuh).

We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur'an although you were, before it, among the unaware. (Quran 12:3)

Imam Jafar stated Believing in Allah and Prophethood was Enough

The 12er Shia say that Waliyah was a condition since day 1. In fact, many of them even go far as saying the even 3 Calipahs first accepted the Waliyah, and then rejected it after the demise of the Prophet (sawas).

Now lets see what Imam Jafar says in the Dozener Shia ahadith book al Kafi.

Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from certain persons of his people from Adam
ibn Ishaq from ‘Abd al-Razzaq from ibn Mihran from al-Husayn ibn Maymun
from Muhammad ibn Salim from abu Ja’far, recipient of divine supreme
covenant, who has said the following:
“Abu Ja'far, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has said,

Allah commanded every prophet to follow the path and the tradition. Of the traditions that
Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, commanded Moses to
follow was al-Sabbath. Those who observed its greatness and
did not violate it out of respect for Allah, Allah admitted them to
paradise. Those who violated its sanctity and considered lawful
what Allah had made unlawful and prohibited, Allah, the Most
Majestic, the Most Holy, sent them to hellfire for their making
fishing lawful. They captured fish and ate them on Sabbath.
Allah showed anger toward them even though they had not taken
anyone as partners of the Beneficent or doubted the truth of what
Moses had brought. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy,
has said, “You certainly knew about those among you who were

transgressors on the Sabbath. We commanded them, ‘Become
detested apes . . .’” (2:65) Then Allah sent Jesus with the
testimony that said, “No one deserves to be worshipped except
Allah and all that he (Jesus) had brought was from Allah.” He
made for them a system of law and a path. He abolished the
Sabbath for which they, before, were commanded to pay respect
and the ways and traditions that Moses had brought. Whoever
did not follow Jesus, Allah sent them to fire, although all that the
prophets had said was that no one must be considered as a
partner of Allah. Then He sent Prophet Muhammad and for the
ten years that he lived in Makka everyone who testified to the
fact that “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, and
that Muhammad is His messenger” Allah admitted him to
paradise just because of his affirmation. It was belief and
affirmation. Allah did not punish anyone of those who died
following Muhammad in that matter except those who took
partners for the Beneficent.
Evidence of this is what Allah, the
Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has revealed in Chapter 17 in
Makka). “Your Lord has ordained that you must not worship
anything other than Him and that you must be kind to your
parents .
(al Kafi, H 1506, CH 14, h 1)

From this we can see there was no divinely appointed Imamate in the Meccan rule. As for Madina, I don't have convincing proof against the 12ers Shia, as that will require more research. However, the refutation for the Meccan period leaves no room for the 12er Shia to make any suggestions that Imam Ali (as) was since  appointed since day 1 and believing in his divinely appointed Imamate was requirement.

The 5 'Bakri' Furoo-e-deen Pillars Introduced In Madina

To the Dozeners we have missing many of the components which is required to make us momins. One of the main ones are of course Waliyah.

Again let's see what Imam Jafar says about the pillars when the Prophet (pbuh) entered Madina.

Evidence of this (more serious sins) is the words of Allah, the
Most Majestic, the Most Holy, about them on their being
brought together in fire, “The last group will accuse the first
saying, ‘Lord, they made us go astray. Therefore, double their
torment in the Fire . . .’” (7:38) They will condemn and accuse
each other. They argue in the hope of winning but there will be
no winning, trial or acceptance of excuses and there will be no
way to safety. Such verses and similar other ones were revealed
in Makka. Allah does not send to fire anyone except the pagans.
When Allah granted Muhammad permission to leave Makka for
Madina he spoke of Islam having five principles:
‘To testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah,
that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger, that
performing the prayer, paying al-Zakat (charity), Hajj of the
House and fasting in the month of Ramadan are obligatory.
( al Kafi Volume 2,  H 1506, CH 14, h 1)

Futile Attempt by 12er of Denying the Imamate of Imam Zayd (as)

So the Dozen censors the first part and doesn't even realize that supporting the second part makes him look even more foolish.

In his "Miratul uqul" (2/278) Majlisi wrote:

و اعلم أن الأخبار في حال زيد مختلفة، ففي بعضها ما يدل على أنه ادعى الإمامة فيكون كافرا، و في كثير منها أنه كان يدعو إلى الرضا من آل محمد
"And know that narrations about condition of Zayd are different, and in some of them is proof that he claimed imamate and become kaafir, and in many of them stated that he was calling to ar-Ridah from family of Mohammad..".

The 12er Shia claim that Imam Zayd (as) did not claim Imamate. There are many narration they use to defend their sect, but if we  focus on this narration which states that Imam Zayd did not claim Imamate, and only opened a way for Al Rida among the Ahlul Bayt it makes no sense.
Al Rida is the 8th Imam who didn't even exist in the lifetime of Imam Zayd (as).

Umar bin Abdul Aziz and Muawiyah bin Yazid Cursed by the 12er Shia

It turns out that the Dozener Shia sect's curse against the Bani Ummayah includes Umar bin Abdul Aziz (ra) and Muawiyah bin Yazid.

The cursing which is found in Ziyarat Ashura also includes Yazid\'s son. Considering that he (Muawiyah bin Yazid) was a good man, how can we consider Ziyarat Ashura as authentic and reliable?

Concise answer

All the Banu Umayyah [lit. Sons of Umayyah] including Yazid's son have been cursed in Ziyarat Ashura. However, according to some historians Yazid's son and a few other people from the same clan rendered some good humanitarian services to the people of their time. Apparently, the cursing which is found in Ziyarat Ashura is opposed to the good deeds they have done. This begs the question: Why are they cursed? In order to make this point clear and to demonstrate that there is no contradiction between the two, we must say: The name 'Banu Umayyah' refers to and includes all those people who were intellectually and practically coordinated with Banu Umayyah to oppose the Ahlul-Bayt of the Holy Prophet (s). That is to say, all those who were opposed to the imamate (leadership) of the Imams (a.s.) and were directly or indirectly involved in committing crimes against them or were just happy with the atrocities unleashed upon the Imams are included. This point is clearly inferred from the statements preceding and following the curse. That is because the context of Ziyarat Ashura indicates that those cursed are people who usurped the caliphate and reclined on its throne through illegitimate ways. They were the ones who made every effort to turn off the light of Allah, so they left no stone unturned to express their enmity to the family of the Holy Prophet (s). It also includes those individuals who backed these people or consented to their crimes. Thus, the good and noble people from Bunu Umayyah are categorically excluded. That is, the curse in Ziyarat Ashura does not include the good doers from Banu Umayyah in the first place.

Detailed Answer
The above question has two aspects that need to be dealt with: One, investigation into the life of Yazid's son in terms of his beliefs and conducts, another, understanding the meaning of "cursing all Banu Umayyah" in Ziyarat Ashura.
When it comes to Yazid's son, we must say that: There is no doubt that Muawiyah bin Yazid's abdication from the throne was a praiseworthy action on his part. Indeed, he understood very rightly that the throne had been usurped and that he was not the right person to recline on it. However, it does not mean that we must be certain that Muawiyah bin Yazid repented with all the conditions of repentance (including compensation of all the committed injustice and oppressions) and was bestowed with divine blessing. His abdication from power also does not mean that he was not included in the curse of Allah. There is no doubt that usurping the caliphate, for a short time though, is a great sin and if this sin has to be forgiven, it should bear certain conditions. For example, Imam Sajjad (a.s.) said about Umar bin Abdul Aziz that the Imam said to Abdullah bin 'Ata: "He (Umar bin Abdul Aziz) will die and people on earth will cry on his death while the dwellers of the heavens shall curse him."[1] That is because he occupied a position to which he had no right and which he did not deserve, though he had done a lot of good and positive things. Indeed, we cannot say for sure that Muawiyah bin Yazid or Umar bin Abdul Aziz is not included in the divine grace.[2] In any case, God alone knows about their fate but it is undeniable that some people from the Banu Umayyah tribe were among the sincere and devout Shiites like Khalid bin Aas, Abul Aas bin Rabi', Sa'd al-Khair and a few others. Having said that, we accept that there are people in Banu Umayyah who do not deserve to be cursed by Allah.  Now, we shall take up the discussion with the second aspect of the question i.e. the meaning of 'Banu Umayyah' in Ziyarat Ashura.
